CLA og andre stoffer i mælk relateret til den humane sundhed - hvordan kan primærproducenten påvirke indholdet Organic Eprints
Nielsen, Tina Skau; Straarup, Ellen Marie; Sejrsen, Kristen.

Close relationship between pre- and post-calving reticuloruminal pH Levels in dairy cows Organic Eprints
Steinwidder, Andreas; Horn, Marco; Pfister, Rupert; Rohrer, Hannes; Gasteiner, Johann.
The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of prepartum reticuloruminal pH values on postpartum pH values of lactating cows at two concentrate supplementation levels. An indwelling pH measurement system with a wireless data transmitting unit was given to 9 heifers and 11 cows orally 2 weeks before expected calving. The pH was measured from week 2 prepartum to week 6 postpartum. Prepartum, all animals were fed hay and grass silage only. After parturition the animals were assigned to one of two concentrate supplementation levels (Con and Low). During the first 6 weeks postpartum, 5.6 kg and 2.9 kg dry matter per day of concentrates were fed to cows in groups Con and Low, respectively. Before parturition, no effect of the week on the mean pH...

CLOSING THE PLANT-ANIMAL LOOP: A PREREQUISITE FOR ORGANIC FARMING Organic Eprints
Bleken, Marina A.; Steinshamn, Håvard; Thuen, Erling; Koesling, Matthias.
An analysis of a number of published surveys of dairy farms in Europe is used to exemplify the consequences of the use of external feed on nitrogen loss from organic animal productions. It is concluded that the present international regulations are not adequate to enforce the adoption of environmentally friendly and sustainable organic production systems, in harmonious balance between crop production and animal husbandry.

Coexistence between genetically modified, conventional and organic crops. Availability of organically produced seed of varieties adapted to organic production systems Organic Eprints
Boelt, B.; Deleuran, L.C..
To maintain the integrity of organic farming systems guidelines to ensure coexistence between genetically modified (GM), conventional and organic crops should be implied. Since seed is moved cross borders a regulatory system is need to allow for organically produced seed of varieties adapted to organic production systems being available to organic farmers both in developed and developing countries.

Co-existence of Organic and GM Agriculture Organic Eprints
Boelt, Birte.
The Danish Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries presented in spring 2004 a bill on co-existence of genetically modified, conventional and organic crops in support of the free choice of consumers and to ensure development possibilities for new and existing production forms. The bill contains a framework for regulation based on crop specific control measures, communication among farmers and mandatory courses in GM cultivation. The identification of control measures is based on the report form the Danish analysis group and from the presentations and discussions at the First European Conference on Co-existence, GMCC-03.

Co-existence with GMOs and organic seed production Organic Eprints
Boelt, B..
Co-existence is defined as the farmers being able to choose between conventional, organic and genetically modified (GM) crop production, in compliance with the relevant legislation on labelling rules and purity standards. Genes of cultivated plants spread in time and space through pollen and seed dispersal, and in addition handling during transport and processing may also disperse seeds. Consequently, suitable measures during cultivation, harvest, transport, storage, and processing are necessary to ensure co-existence in the supply chain of propagated seed. With the increasing area of GM-crop production as well as in the number of crops in which GM-varieties are available the need for guidelines to ensure coexistence are becoming increasingly essential....

Collaborative partnerships between organic farmers Organic Eprints
Asai, Masayasu; Langer, Vibeke; Frederiksen, Pia.
A survey of Danish dairy farmers show that - around 70% of all organic dairt farmers collaborate around manure - the main factors for success in collaboration are trust, reliabilty and timely communication -organic exporting farmers are less concerned with distance because the organic network is more dispersed. Development of well functioning collaborative partnerships may increase farm robustness to changing conditions.

Combined free-range piglets and energy crop production: Impact on nitrate leaching Organic Eprints
Lao, Emanuel Joel.
Keeping sows in the outdoor pasture conveys high risk on environmental pollution through nitrate leaching which might be tremendously high in autumn and winter. Integrating grassland based free-range pigs with selected energy crops has been proposed as one possible approach to reduce nutrient leaching; however the effect has never been quantified. The ecoefficient pig farming that takes care of pig’s animal welfare and possible reduction of nitrate loss into environment may be achieved which will contribute to the Danish Green Growth Agreement of reducing up to 19,000 tons of NO3-N between 2010 and 2015. Apart from the main focus on NO3-N leaching potential, this experiment also investigated Nmin and phosphorus distributions at various soil depths and...

Comparación de la estructura y rendimientos ganaderos en sistemas de producción tradicional y ecológico de bovino en Extremadura. Comparison of the structure and livestock yields in traditional production systems and ecological bovine Extremadura Organic Eprints
Rico, S; Escribano, B; Granes, JF; Escribano, AJ; Gaspar, p.
The paper analyzes the structure and performance of beef cattle farms in Extremadura: Conventional (n = 50), Organic with no sales of organic products (n = 37) and Organic farms with sales of organic products (n = 11). Regarding stocking rate levels, no significant differences were observed among groups. By contrast, significant differences among the three types of farms regarding racial structure (p <0.05). Similarly, significant differences were found (p <0.1) in relation to farm's area, cattle's reproductive management and performance. The study highlights the similarity between conventional and organic cattle production in Extremadura. This fact could allow a smooth transition of conventional farms to the organic production model.

Comparison between dual-purpose and specialized dairy cattle in pasture-based systems: change in body condition, locomotion score and cleanliness from summer to winter season Organic Eprints
Scholl, Francisca.
This study is an exploratory research comparing the changes of body condition score, locomotion score and cleanliness score between pasture and indoor season in purebred Dutch Friesian, 75% Dutch Friesian, 50% Dutch Friesian, Holstein Bakels and Brown Swiss dairy cattle. The dual-purpose cows were expected to cope better with a change in season and harsher environmental conditions compared to specialized dairy cows. Therefore it was expected that the body condition of the dual-purpose cows would be closer to the optimum or even higher and would barely change over season. The specialized dairy cows were expected to cope less well on pastures and during a change of season, with a body condition under the optimum, higher prevalence of lameness and more dirt...

Comparison of eight degree-days estimation methods in four agroecological regions in Colombia. Organic Eprints
Caicedo, Daniel Rodríguez; Torres, Jose Miguel Cotes; Cure, José Ricardo.
Eight methods were used to estimate degree-days in four Colombian localities. Four methods have been previously proposed in literature: Simple Sine, Double Sine, Simple Triangle, and Double Triangle methods. The other four methods are proposed in this research: Simple Logistic, Double Logistic, Simple Normal, and Double Normal. The estimation of the degree-days through hourly temperature values was used as the reference standard method, and the four localities from where the temperature values were taken were the municipalities of Cajicá (Cundinamarca), Santa Elena (Antioquia), Carepa (Urabá Antioqueño), and Ciudad Bolivar (Zona cafetera Antioqueña). Degree-days obtained by all methods under study were compared through linear regression to those obtained...

Compatibility of animal husbandry practices of registered organic farmers with organic animal husbandry standards (OAHS): an assessment in Uttarakhand Organic Eprints
Bodapati, Subrahmanyeswari; Chander, Mahesh.
Organic fanning is increasingly being seen as one sustainable option to farmers, among the alternatives to conventional input intensive farming systems. Uttarakhand in India is promoting organic agriculture state state through registering the farmers and providing them necessary support including marketing in crop sector. However, these registered organic farmers, who maintain two or more than two livestock species under crop-livestock mixed farming systems, not yet geared to organic livestock production per se. As 'organic' is a process claim rather than a product claim, the study on the compatibility of animal husbandry practices of registered organic farmers with the recommended organic livestock production standards, may provide an idea of the...
